Social Media: How often should I post?
The answer to this often-asked question is simple: it depends on the platform. On the wrong platform, too many updates can make your page lose traction. On the correct platform, not enough updates can make you lose traction. No fair, right?! Let's cover some of the most common social media platforms, and note: all of these recommendations are subject to our current opinion.
Facebook: On Facebook, we'd recommend no more than 1-2 carefully crafted posts per day, as long as the content is good. If it's not, there's no harm in posting only a few times weekly. If you create an advertisement through Facebook, you typically want to run it for a week.
Instagram: You can post on Instagram as long as the content is good! People use Instagram as a visual way to connect and keep up with folks. When posting on Instagram, ask yourself, "Is this a good thing to update someone on?" With a little bit of common sense, it's easy to know when a post is good or not. i.e. Are you in the fitness industry and posting a video/photo of your workout? Good! A video of you brushing your teeth? BAD! :) Make sure to play around with the Instagram stories and InstaTV as well!
Twitter: Think about Twitter like the text version of Instagram. You can post as long as your post is relevant. A person may want an injury update on a football game, but not an update on every single point scored.
YouTube: The best way to post on YouTube is with professionally edited imagery and content. The threshold for YouTube has become quite high with all of the folks delivering exceptional content, so the threshold for delivering relevant content has also increased. Infrequent (i.e. once a week) updates are more meaningful to your subscribers.
LinkedIn: Remember that LinkedIn is a professional network. You can post, write, and re-share articles as long as they are relevant to your industry. We would recommend confining your posts to your industry, as well. This further strengthens your brand.
