Social Media Detox for 7 Days
Introduction
Hey, everyone!
In an attempt to measure my digital dependency, I recently undertook a 7-day social media detox, focusing on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. The goal was straightforward: evaluate the extent of my addiction and recognize the excessive time spent in the virtual world. Deleting these apps, I expected a smooth journey, only to uncover unforeseen challenges and revelations about my habits.
P.S. Despite mentioning social media, I only considered Instagram and TikTok, leaving Telegram and YouTube due to work commitments.
Day 1:
I deleted my Instagram and TikTok, thinking it would be easy. I dedicated my time to work, training, and lessons throughout the day. However, during moments on the browser, the urge to open Instagram to view stories or watch reels lingered.
Day 2:
On the second day, I felt a noticeable difference. Waking up fresher, and breaking the habit of using social media before bed, contributed to increased focus during work.
Day 3:
It was on the third day that I realized my addiction. Every 20 minutes, I wanted to open social media, watch videos, or check messages. I actively worked to divert my thoughts from social media, engaging in activities such as tennis, PlayStation, and art, like editing my photos.

Day 4:
Admittedly, on the fourth day, I visited Instagram to find a Fast Food phone number for an order but quickly exited. The allure of reels and videos began to fade, and my focus notably improved.
Days 5, 6, 7:
Each day, I woke up earlier and much fresher. Devoting undivided attention to work became effortless. Trends and messages lost their appeal, becoming uninteresting.
Conclusion:
The benefits of this detox were substantial. Post-reinstallation, I use social media less than before. I highly recommend everyone limit their social media time. It leads to increased happiness, especially during stressful times when you're not constantly aware of what others are doing.
I think every other month, I'm going to social media detox to clear my dopamine pathway.
Less is more.
