SOCIAL MEDIA CHAIN REACTIONS
It’s been a while since LinkedIn as a platform bestowed upon members the privilege of having more than one option in reactions to a post, remember when all we could do is ‘like’.
I’ve been active on this platform since 2011, joined in 2004, so it did become rather mundane and repetitive, especially when the content of some posts is of such high quality, or so provocative, they are deserving of far more.
Nonetheless, now we have more choice on #LinkedIn, an increase in choices on #Facebook, but still just the one ‘heart like’ | 'love like' on #Twitter.
I’ve taken a look at why I react they way I do on LinkedIn, and elsewhere on social media. These are some generic thoughts on how and why I use the reaction buttons given that I am now ‘spoilt for choice’.
ON LINKEDIN
LIKE_
I like the content of the post.
The headline is in keeping with my own opinion on the subject matter.
I agree in broad terms with the commentary of the author, and even some of the contributors.
I don’t always read the entire content, but generally I like what I have seen.
LOVE_
I love the image, content, and/or subject matter.
The subject matter means something special to me.
The subject matter resonates with my own experiences.
The content relates to my own professional or personal opinion.
I have a deep and meaningful ‘connection’ to the content.
INSIGHTFUL_
The post - content, commentary, subject matter, headline, provides unique information and clarification on matters of significant concern, or personal interest.
The post - content, commentary, subject matter, headline, offers encouragement or is enlightening, and may add significantly to learning or understanding on a professional, personal, or emotional level, and I gain something memorable by reading it.
The post - content, commentary, subject matter, headline, is well worth reading and exploring further on a personal, professional, pr emotional level.
CURIOUS_
I may or may not have read the post in its entirety, or clicked on the article if there is one, but I am curious about it, it sparks my interest on a personal, professional, or emotional level.
I may or may not agree with the commentary of the author, or of the article if there is one, but I consider it significant.
The content warrants a reaction recorded for posterity so that it figures on my digital imprints and timeline.
CELEBRATE_
I applaud the efforts and achievements described in the commentary of the author and/or in the content of the article if there is one.
I respect and admire the subject matter, the person, the achievements, the invention, or the innovation.
I am happy to raise awareness of what has been achieved, to celebrate the success, and bring it to the attention of others in my network.
ON TWITTER
Twitter has just the one reaction ‘like heart’ or ‘love heart’ this is actually something to grapple with in my thinking because some Twitter content is really challenging and heartbreaking.
But generally speaking, I like the fact that the content is there, that I have access to it, and that I can respond and share it with others in my networks.
It is not necessarily because I like the information, or that I agree with it, although sometimes I do.
The key point on Twitter is that I have access to content from a useful or informative source which adds to my knowledge base, and on some occasions, to what I am able to enjoy, confirm, or share with others in my network on a ‘these are the things we should know or explore’ basis. They are very insightful.
ON FACEBOOK
One main difference after the ‘wow’ or even 'angry' emoji which I often use as a fall back in a similar way to the LinkedIn ‘curious’, there is one main difference to the reactions options available when compared to LinkedIn, and that is the ‘laughter’ reaction, an emoji some - including myself, would like to see on LinkedIn.
LAUGHTER_
I find the content and/or commentary amusing, I am amused, I laugh out loud, and sometimes I shed tears of joy just reading it, or looking at the images being shared.
The content or commentary engenders a feel good factor.
Often there is some irony, or sarcasm, or the humour is dark and deep.
When responding with a comment, I often use more ‘laughter’ related emojis for emphasis because the post is of such quality, I feel a need to extend and further share my acquiescence in the comment section as a response.
EMBRACE_
A new emoji introduced by Facebook during the corona virus crisis, but using it can extend way beyond just the current pandemic situation.
I empathise, I send you love and hugs, I am with you emotionally and virtually.
I send you comfort and share in your joy and happiness, and even in your sorrow and sadness.
I want you to be safe, I hope that you are protected from harm.
FOR THE ANIMALS
Mainly on LinkedIn where I spend most of my time in terms of social media, I have very special connections who share content and commentary relating to animals, including glorious photography, information about endangered species, and campaigns to protect wildlife.
They also share content about animals in their natural habitat, or how animals as pets or friends bring joy and comfort to the lives of human beings.
Sometimes I share the outcomes of my imagination when I script what the animals might say if they could talk to me, or if I could talk to them.
I love sharing what animals can teach us as humans, and extending those thought processes to bring humour, and perhaps smiles and laughter to my connections, friends, and followers.
WHY WE (royal) ARE HERE ON LINKEDIN
This is the link to a post I shared in December 2019, an affirmation and confirmation that being on social media can serve a hugely beneficial purpose, and that when utilised correctly social media really is good for something.
This article includes some of my hashtags and easier access to some of my posts and the content I share. Well worth a read_
FOR WHEN THINGS DON'T WORK OUT_
When people take advantage of the privilege of connectivity on social media, when they reveal they are not 'like minded people', these are the most powerful social media reactions of all:
#removeconnection #unfollow #unfriend #block #report
