Jealousy is an emotion that is a black hole for you and doesn't affect the other person at all.
Social media is a breeding ground for people to see the success of others and respond jealously (even if that jealousy is in silence.)
Here are just a few thoughts of wisdom if you feel like "why not me, why them?"
1. You have no idea about the journey, time, money, or work they have invested before you see what you see.
2. If you are focused on them and not on what you should be doing, you are wasting energy that could be put towards your own success to move you to new heights.
3. Be wise and hire them, follow them, or model them (the fastest way is to hire them.)
Many years ago, in one of my businesses, a competitor came in and opened up a facility with prices 75% lower than mine. 75%!!!
They had new and shiny. All the bells and whistles and low prices! I didn't know how to compete.
I was jealous and frustrated (I am ashamed to admit), and I wasted so much time and energy trying to figure out how they could do what they were doing and be profitable enough to stay in business.
Finally, I redirected my energy to getting better, innovating, and looking for new ways to compete.
I grew my knowledge, skills, and business savvy more in the next few years than I had in several previous years.
I quit investing my time in them, and what they were doing, and I spent my time on what I was doing and playing a bigger game.
My education didn't go to waste as I expanded my business and opened up three more businesses.
Many years later, after I had sold all four of those businesses for significant profits and was already consulting and coaching other business owners to more success in their businesses, I was approached by that competitor to buy them out.
Here's what I found out...
They NEVER made a profit. Their entire business for all those years was a tax write off and was built, so their kids had a place to work.
If I had continued to allow my frustration and jealousy to consume me, I would have been the "victim" with nothing to show for it in the end.
Instead, I used that challenge to become much better by growing my skills and knowledge.
I have made many mistakes in business over twenty-nine years building many businesses, but the one mistake I have not made again is to get off track by being envious or jealous of someone else's success.
There is abundance all around us and for us. But, if you look at others and wish things were easier and find yourself being envious or frustrated, it's time to look inward and use that opportunity for your growth.
