Social Media August Updates Week 1
We kick August off with the US putting pressure on TikTok to sell out by September as well as a whole range of feature releases from Facebook on multiple platforms.
Facebook launches free education sessions and awareness programs to support and highlight black-owned businesses, as well as a new video series to share insights into its product development process. The platform has also updated it chat plugin for websites that allows users to message without logging into messenger.

TikTok
TikTok is under mounting pressure to break away from it's Chinese government associations as the US has pushed the company to sell and the platform has seen a significant usage decrease in light of the platforms ban from India, and if they don't sell, the US too. Microsoft is currently evaluating the company for a takeover offer.
In light of this pressure, the platform is also updating its efforts to counter election misinformation on the platform and a study has recently been released that highlights how TikTok helps Gen Z learn about social justice issues.
