Social justice mural towers in KPU's Surrey library
Earlier this year, the Eyes Multimedia team had the pleasure of documenting the creation and installation of a gorgeous mural for Kwantlen Polytechnic University !?
The mural was designed by three international artists: Brandon Gabriel , Desi Mundo and Pancho Pescador, who met at KDocsFF: Metro Vancouver's Premier Social Justice Film Festival in 2022 as panelists for the documentary Alice Street.
The huge art piece is 25 feet tall and 10 feet wide and was painted in six pieces (panels) that were then put together. It features Coast Salish Advocate Kat Norris as its centerpiece, and focuses on the themes of missing and murdered Indigenous women and the environment.
The process of creating and installing the mural spanned several months and it was carried out on KPU’s Surrey Campus. Filming was a process of stopping by to capture footage at several different stages of the artwork’s development, installation and, finally, the emotional unveiling ceremony. Check out the video here!
If you want to see this gorgeous mural in person, you can swing by the KPU Library Surrey !
?? Thanks Greg Chan , Diane Purvey , Todd Mundle and all your team for the opportunity to work together!
