"The Social Dilemma"
After Netflix recent launch,
people especially from digital marketing
are pointing the finger at network giants like Facebook.
And I thought:
"We return to the time of witch hunt ??"
Facebook responds vaguely to criticisms from "The Social Dilemma",
which are also somewhat vague (you can check here in this pdf.
I think people are using it as an excuse to finally get out of the app.
Because it is not trendy anymore.
They are still using Instagram, WhatsApp (same FB group), and Google.
So what is the point of this "fake manifest"?
Everyone is so much scandalized and offended about something that is public on their terms and conditions for so many years,
but at the same time, people are very excited and offer for free to be part of things like Tesla's microchip experience.
Sorry for saying this:
but I think that people just need to have a polemic subject time at times to feel relevant. To be a moralist.
Because in the medium-long term they don't take any action to change what they are against.
And simply forget.
The same people that deleted Facebook now, will still use other apps and digital platforms that do the same.
Even cable TV operators are trying to convert the public to 'smart tv personalized Programmation', which brings to show in the future 'relevant' ads too.
(I am not saying that I entirely agree, but I am part of the system If I use them)
In some way,
Netflix, Spotify, Amazon do all the same with their algorithm (in terms of products)
and allows external ad platforms to do the same as Facebook or similar networks.
So...
this is almost a no end conversation.
The problem here is the way people use these digital platforms.
Not for good reasons,
e.g:. to connect and have fun with their folks
instead, people use it to compare themselves to others, craving someone's "perfect" life.
Developing mental problems, like they used to do in a real-life context (about the feeds polarized content).
About personal data. This happens with almost all internet applications.
And nowadays people already know that
but are still using it, because they want.
Like a fast-food junkey.
Bill Burr said one time, the problem is not Mcdonalds, the problem is the people that are still eating its products,
Mcdonals just offer a product, like other brands.
And people choose to buy it.
Remember, you are free to opt if you want or not.
Take control of your life.
This is the right time to start.

4 å¹´I share an excerpt from the article by Scott Galloway, when he talks about Facebook. "We’re at a point where if we don’t push back pretty hard we run the risk of having an emerging second shadow government that dictates things like privacy, commerce, retail, sales, and tax,†Galloway argued. “These firms are dictating our lives as it relates to key components of life. Mark Zuckerberg has become the new ‘Privacy Tsar’ globally, what could go wrong? Mark Zuckerberg has more control over your privacy than any individual in the world and you’ve got to decide, are we down with that?â€

4 å¹´Well i agree with you on most of your thoughts. But how do we fix the lifes destroyed by social media on people who do not own any social accounts? Here's a simple example: Trump 'bought' his presidency trough social media especially on Facebook. Would you vote for Trump? Millions did not, and yet they are paying the price. The bottom line is people with no social accounts are also paying a huge price. Sometimes with their lifes. Social Media is not the problem, the real problem is that there's no regulation. Data is now the most valuable commodity in the world, and this makes Mark Zuckerberg a very powerful man with his hand on the 'launch button'. As proven before he also gets drunk. Bad Sh*t happens when he pushes the button. Unregulated social media is a huge problem, and people who use it are part of it. And since people are not going to stop using it, we need regulation immediately.

4 å¹´I couldn't agree more with you! Social media are good for some reasons, but at the same time they could act like poison... I imagine that even the most self-confident person would feel sometimes lost in the "fantasy" of the social media: the place where everyone is successful, happy and full of friends. So yeah, this is indeed a "social dilemma", both able to show up the good and the "evil". Keep going, your articles are very interesting ! :)
