Social Crime

Most of us are on digital media platforms.. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter etc etc.  Some people use it for creating a happier than thou image of their life, some for networking, some for selling and yet some for digitally stalking others.. Social media explosion in last 5 years has brought us together yet made us disconnected. Comparison with others has become our primal instinct.

A senior colleague once told me to ensure I replied to his message within 12 hours. That was his expectation as a super boss. It felt like you are on standby all the time.. and it was annoying. But what he taught me over time is the one thing all people hate, is being ignored. This has stayed with me as a lesson.

While you ponder on this thought.. please introspect to see if you choose to ignore people (or their messages)... do you feel some people 'deserve' your response and some don't ? do you judge them as someone you know or even as strangers ? if yes, think again, isn't it similar to running away from something ?

I urge you to pause and think - where did you start? who helped you? how did you reach where you are today? Sure it is your hardwork and some luck, but the most important of all.. someone somewhere helped you somehow. We must always remember People need people both ways.

You don't have to follow a 12 hour rule but don't ignore any one. You become arrogant by choosing such behavior. This ignore-ance is a social crime.

Everyone is unique. Every person has a story. Unless you have connected with someone as a person, you cannot judge them. With my own experience, I believe you should never choose whom to reply to or ignore.

Asking for help is a very brave act by anyone. Every single message is a story waiting to unfold. There is a real person behind every message.

I challenge anyone claiming to be social networking to stop calling themselves social, if you cannot reply to every single message. Even as a CEO of multi-billion dollar enterprise you cannot be too busy to reply. You must find a way (a virtual secretary if necessary) to manage your social activity. Having a million followers and ignoring even 1 is a social-crime and just disrespectful.

This write-up is not about what is good or bad for you.. I am not your preacher. This is just an opportunity for you to introspect, as I implore you to be genuinely social.. It's about paying forward and being human.

As most people think of everything in a materialistic and self-centered way... you never know who you will need when, where and how... so never ignore anyone. Be truly social.

Social Arrogance or Ignore-ance is a Crime. #fact #bebold #bebrave #besocial #bekind
