Social chatbots can be excellent tools for encouraging social interactions for neurodivergent children. Clearly, we are discussing technology with the potential to facilitate opportunities for interaction with real individuals in everyday life. However, there is a real risk of transforming a safe interaction zone into a permanent comfort zone. I believe it is essential for parents to foster genuine social interactions in their neurodivergent children while respecting the individual limits and characteristics of each child. Technology should be viewed as a means to deepen human relationships, not as a replacement for them.
