Is Social Burnout Real? Here’s What I’ve Learned.
In the last few months, I’ve been working hard on my networking and content creation efforts to keep my business pipeline full and connected.?
Pushing Too Hard or Just Making Excuses? Recognizing Social Burnout
I do recall a time when, as I was running late to a networking event (something I usually avoid at all costs), I had to ask myself an honest question: Am I pushing myself too hard, or am I just making excuses? After reflecting, I realized I might be nearing social burnout and would benefit from stepping back to recharge.?
In Business and Life, Measure Progress Against Yourself, Not Others’ Highlight Reels?
In the business world, we’re often told to keep pushing forward, to work harder, network more, and post consistently to stay relevant. While these are important, I’ve realized that recognizing our progress and giving ourselves credit is just as crucial. Without it, it’s easy to fall into social comparison, which can be destructive. We often see others’ successes online without the context behind them, and it’s tempting to measure ourselves against those highlight reels.?
?But here’s the thing: comparing ourselves to others’ successes is rarely fair or accurate. Different starting points, varying experiences, and unique opportunities make it nearly impossible to compare equally.?
?For me, the only fair comparison is where I am now vs. where I was—weeks, months, or even years ago.
?I wanted to share these reflections to break out of the social media “highlight” reel and remind anyone reading to approach their own journey with balance. A takeaway I’ve shared recently with my coaching clients is this:
?“Be your own best friend. Know when to push yourself to keep going and when to pause, reflect, and refill your energy tank. Trust your progress, stay patient, and remember—it’s not about being the best; it’s about being your best self.”?
