As we close another year and reflect on what we’ve accomplished over the past 12 months, I’m reminded of a sentiment I shared when crossing into 2024: “Move forward like a shark and appreciate life like a dog.”
Now, as we approach 2025, I find myself reflecting on a powerful reminder from my first career mentored by my CFO.? He shared and challenged me on an insightful perspective about the stages of a life’s career. He described three personas we each encounter on this journey:
These stages represent growth, learning, and maturity, culminating in the third persona—the maker of change. It is this final stage where we leave our greatest impact, elevate those around us, and shape our careers and lives to their highest potential while appreciating and enjoying the journey.
Organizations and communities alike seek people who embody this mindset—those who solve problems, break down walls, build bridges and develop people. They are the ones who:
These are the hallmarks of a person who makes things happen.
?So, I ask you: Where are you on this journey? Progress may feel slow at times, but the key is to remain aware of these stages as you strive toward that final state. And how will you know you’ve arrived? You’ll see it in the people who choose to follow you, inspired by your leadership, wherever you go.
