You've been given an offer - now what? How to avoid buyer's remorse when accepting a new role.

You've been given an offer - now what? How to avoid buyer's remorse when accepting a new role.

Congrats! You have made it to the final stretch of your job search - but don't take your foot off the gas quite yet. When it comes to considering a new role, it's crucial to look beyond surface-level factors like salary and vacation time. After all, we spend a significant amount of our lives at work, so it's important to take a holistic approach to the decision-making process. That's why I always encourage my clients to consider four key categories: Present Finances, Future Finances, Present Peace, and Future Opportunity.

Present Finances are an obvious consideration, as we all need to pay the bills. But it's essential to ask yourself if this offer meets your current financial needs. And if it doesn't, are the other three categories significant enough to outweigh any temporary loss? Are you in a position to weather a season of less?

Future Finances are just as important to consider. Is this role preparing you for a more verdant financial future? Will it lead to new opportunities that were previously unavailable to you? If the answer is no, then consider if the other three categories outweigh this potential loss.

Present Peace is often overlooked, but it's a crucial factor in your overall well-being. Will this new role protect or disrupt your peace? Are you leaving something toxic for something life-giving? Or perhaps you're running away from a challenge that could help you grow. It's also worth considering if this opportunity is worth the disruption to your life, and whether you're emotionally, mentally, and spiritually prepared to weather any unknowns that may come your way.

Finally, Future Opportunity is an essential consideration. Does this role offer you the chance to learn new skills or gain new experiences that will help you be successful in the future? Will it open up new opportunities that were previously unavailable? And what about relationship and resume building, equity, and other intangibles that could have a significant impact on your career?

By taking the time to consider these four categories, you'll be well on your way to making an informed decision about your future. So the next time you find yourself at a professional crossroads, take a few moments to ask yourself these essential questions. Your future self will thank you for it.

Really great read. Thank you Angel for sharing your insights in this article. These are great things to think about especially for young business professionals who may not always be looking at the whole picture when looking at job offers.
