Practical Advice: Applying for a job? Here’s what to consider for how long to make your résumé

GETTY IMAGES

When applying for a job, it’s understandable to stress about your résumé. While it’s not an exact science, there are a number of ways to make yours stand out from the rest. One aspect that many candidates fret over is length: Will adding a second (or even a third) page make it too long??

No matter what, it’s always best to keep your résumé concise, allowing room to articulate your value while maintaining an uncluttered and professional look. As to the specific length, that will depend on your experience level and the type of job you’re applying for. Recent graduates and professionals with less than 10 years of experience can typically convey this information in a one-page résumé.?

Mid-to-late career professionals should aim for two pages, as condensing your entire career into a single page risks losing important information that can sell your skills and achievements.

If you start creeping into three-page territory, you’re likely to become repetitive and potentially lose your audience’s attention. Remember that hiring managers often look at résumés on a phone or tablet, and three pages can start to feel overly long on those screens.

Tips & Strategies: How to build influence without authority at work

GETTY IMAGES

Have you ever been tasked with leading a high-profile project without getting a promotion? These are often great opportunities for employees to prove themselves to management, but it often requires them to master the art of building influence without authority at the office.

Workers in this position must be able to motivate people of all levels by displaying confidence and expertise. To do so, it’s important to build relationships with co-workers in order to foster trust, create a network of allies that can act as advisers and champion your work, and embrace resistance by acknowledging that you don’t know everything—but you are willing to learn.

By putting in the time and effort, you can build a reputation for being a trustworthy, results-oriented leader. And that can lead to more professional success down the road.

Completely agree with it being of up to two pages - a while back general recommendation trend was 1 page only which makes it difficult to pinpoint key skills if you have had different and active roles, even if in mid-career stage.

I am glad to share green news to the world. WindSol, the first UNLIMITED RANGE system for EVs. WindSol is a system to gather wind and solar energy from the environment to generate electric power for EVs. -WS will help alleviate global warming; harmful emissions, etc.; -is convenient for users/drivers by not having to charge their cars ever, and is free; - is easy and economic to adopt by automakers; -requires significant less batteries ??, ~1-2kwh only, Acid/led or lithium; -doesn't violates the 2d law of thermodynamics, + little drag is added, as per AI findings; -Wind generators/turbines ("WT") can be mounted on different parts of cars to utilize the windflow. I would highly appreciate sharing this green news with the public in general, the media, scientific community, environmentalists, the government, and auto-makers.
