So You Want to Write a Book...

So You Want to Write a Book...

As a business owner, you’ve tried several ways to market yourself, but the flood gates have not opened yet. What are you doing wrong? Nothing--you’re just not capitalizing on the best modes of engagement that are available to you today. Look at your competition and strategic partners. It seems that many of them are suddenly authors; some are best-sellers.

That’s a great avenue for you, too, but there’s only one tiny problem – you either HATE to write or simply don’t have the DESIRE to take the time to sit down to write a book.

After all, you got into business to “do your thing”--not to write about it. What to do?

1.   Face the fact that writing a book is one of the most effective ways of positioning yourself as a leader in your field.

2.   Go for more speaking engagements as an author – organizations are more likely to invite you to address their audience if you’re a solid expert – and having a book is one of the easiest ways to prove that.

3.   Appreciate that having a book makes you more “sticky.” How many business cards have you handed out, and how easy is it for your card to get lost in the shuffle? On the other hand, just visualize yourself autographing books at your book launch party…

Got you going, right?

Here’s a few simple tips to get you started.

1.   Consider all the ways you love helping your clients, your unique value proposition, what successes your clients have had, why they love working with you – and start jotting down ideas into a rough outline.

2.   Scan through the blogs, e-newsletters, articles, etc. that you’ve already written in the past two or three years. What do you know? You may already have the start of a book.

3.   Pour your experiences and ideas into the lap of a professional writer. If you’re completely stumped as to how to get that book out of your head and onto the page, a professional can translate your ideas into a well-written, error-free, professional piece of work.

Thinking about where to go next? Do you think we are a good fit for working together? Let’s find out. Contact me at 973-362-5382 or [email protected] and we can get started.
