So You Want to Get Promoted?

So You Want to Get Promoted?

I hear this quite often, "Give me the position and I will show you what I can achieve". I find flaws in this thought process. The thing that you need to remember is that no company will offer you a 10 million dollar business to handle, or for that matter a $2 million store and say " Show me what you can do". If you have not shown progression, the onus and the zeal to take on more, promotion is not happening for you, at least not in the near future.

What you have to understand is that the more you move up, there might be less physical work, however there is much more planning, vision, stress management and responsibility. So if you are already freaking out in the position that you hold, then how will you hold the next position?

I am not a HR professional, so I won't give you any advice. I am just sharing my personal experience.

The 3 Key Elements For Getting Promoted

Take Ownership-Be Open minded

If you want to become successful in life, you need to take ownership. This is because when you’re taking ownership, you are saying “I am responsible for my actions. I can do whatever I set out to do. And if I fail, then it is up to me to fix the problem.”

This is a very powerful concept. If you want to be more successful, you need to start thinking like this.

In addition to taking ownership, you also need to accept responsibility. When you’re accepting responsibility, you are acknowledging that you are accountable for your own mistakes. This is why you have to take ownership and accept responsibility.

A good way to help you to think about being responsible is to use the 5-10-15 rule. This is a simple technique that helps people to focus on what they need to do to succeed.

The first step is to write down five things you would like to accomplish in the next ten days. The second step is to list the top three things that are most important to you. Finally, you should add fifteen minutes at the end of each day to work on the items from your lists.

If you don’t have any idea what you want out of life or what you will be doing in the future then it is not worth the time and effort. We all go through different stages in our lives but if we do not plan ahead, we may find ourselves stuck in a rut. If you just went with the flow, then you ended wherever the river took you. Was that your destination?

Be Passionate

You're a good person, and you want to help others. You're a caring person, and you want to help others.

It's really no surprise, then, that your career should be at least somewhat aligned with your personal values. Your career shouldn't be an afterthought; you shouldn't be doing a job just because it pays the bills.

Your career should be something that you're excited about. Your job should make you happy.

To make sure your career is in line with your personal values, you need to be sure you're doing a job you care about. There are many jobs available today, and the best ones have meaning behind them.

You can find meaning in any job. Here are some examples of how people find meaning in their careers:

? You're working in a field where you genuinely enjoy what you do.

? You're helping people with real problems.

? You're solving problems and developing solutions to real issues.

? You're building something that has a real impact on people's lives.

? You're helping people.

? You're growing your skills and knowledge.

? You're doing something that makes a positive impact on the world.

? You're doing work that is important to you.

Keep Learning

Most people don't have a specific plan on how to move up the ladder. So I am going to give you a couple steps to follow. If you want to get promoted, then this is what you need to do.

Keep learning and grow yourself. This is the most important thing you can do.?Learn for yourself. Do not learn from someone else. Only learn what works for you. Do not take any shortcuts. No one is going to be happy with you if you are lazy. This is the hardest thing in life. Everyone is trying to push you to succeed. But no one is going to succeed if you fail.

Promotion Tips

Do Your Research-Align with Company Vision

If you want to be promoted in your current job, you need to align yourself with the company’s vision. This is going to mean that you need to do what you can to help the company achieve its goals. For example, if you are a sales person, you might need to sell more products.

But, before you do anything, you need to make sure that you understand the company’s vision. This is important because you don’t want to get into trouble. So, it’s important to read the mission statement of your employer and to ask questions about how the company plans to reach its goals.

Once you know the company’s vision, you need to figure out where you fit in. You should do this by looking at the different departments within the organization.?After that, it’s important to think about whether you are willing to take on additional responsibilities. If the answer is yes, then you should start doing some research to find out what those responsibilities are.

You should also consider your strengths. What skills or talents can you bring to the table??You shouldn't be afraid of taking risks.

Show Your Work-Be Open to Take Risk

If you want to succeed in life, you need to be willing to take risks. When you’re taking a risk, you might fail. But, if you don’t try, then you won’t get anywhere. So, it’s important to be open to taking risks.

It’s also important to understand what you are responsible for when you’re taking a risk. For example, if you’re selling an item online, you’ll need to make sure that the buyer gets their product. If you sell something and the buyer doesn’t receive the item, then you’ve failed.

On the other hand, if you’re doing a project, then you’ll need to accept the fact that you might not be able to finish the job. It’s important to make sure that you’re aware of your responsibilities before you start anything.

You should also remember that there will always be risks involved with everything. The best way to deal with these risks is to be prepared and think through the consequences of each decision.

Have A Good Team Around You

"A person is known by the company they keep." -John C. Maxwell

Your success in a particular field is driven by the people you associate yourself with.?People often make poor decisions because they let themselves be talked into doing something by bad influences, or they let themselves be talked out of doing something by good influences.

It is therefore vitally important to pick your friends and associates carefully.

You should have friends and associates who are positive, optimistic, encouraging, helpful, and successful. The more you see yourself as a member of a successful group, the easier it is to adopt the values of that group, and the less likely you are to be swayed by bad influences.

If you hang around people who are negative, pessimistic, discouraging, and unsuccessful, you may find yourself thinking along the same lines, and this may lead to poor judgment.

Focus On Strengths

As a manager, you are responsible for making sure that your employees are performing their job efficiently. However, many people think that managers are always the ones who are in charge of setting up performance evaluations and getting promoted. While there are certainly instances when this is the case, more often than not, you are responsible for creating opportunities for your team members to get promoted.

You might be thinking “Well, of course I’m going to give my team members promotions!” And that’s totally okay. In fact, it’s probably smart! What most people forget is that even though you are the manager, it doesn’t mean that your team members aren’t responsible for their own careers.

If you are consistently giving promotions to your team members, then you’re likely doing a lot of things right.?

Build Your Professional Network

?The world of work is a vast place. And it gets even bigger when you think about the people you meet on a daily basis. You can’t really predict who you might meet in your career.

But whether you meet someone through a connection on LinkedIn or through a friend, you should always keep in mind the purpose of connecting. Whether it’s for networking or for a job, it’s important to remember that you want to build your professional network. If you don’t, you’ll end up getting stuck at a job that doesn’t challenge you.

LinkedIn has a lot of resources to help you navigate your professional life. From job searches to career planning, they have a ton of resources to help you figure out where you want to go and how to get there. I will encourage you to reach out and connect with people.
