So you think you are Goal Oriented?
When I review resumes and interview candidates for career opportunities, this is one of the key words or highlights that always come up. Everyone thinks that they are "Goal Oriented". But when I ask the question "Can you tell me about a time you set a goal and any challenges you had to overcome to achieve said goal?", I hardly get a "Goal Oriented" answer.
Hardly anyone says that they wrote their goal down, they looked at the goal all the time as a reminder, and that they followed a specific path to get there. Hardly anyone talks about a specific time where they achieved a tangible goal. Adding numbers or figures to your goal is always the best and easiest way to explain it. But everyone thinks that they are goal oriented just by setting a goal. Setting a goal is just the first step but that doesn't mean that you are goal oriented.
I can imagine that everyone has pursuits in life, but not everyone achieves what they set out to. If you lay it out in front of you, you will achieve that goal. Don't be afraid to set timelines, goal markers and smaller goals even in order to get where you want to be in life. Fear will drive us to do nothing if we choose that route.
