So you just got laid off Now What?
Well, in today’s job market there is not much good to say about getting laid off unexpectedly and having to gather up yourself. Empty out your desk, and give up that fancy red stapler we’re all so fond of.
Or maybe you work from home so you’ll wake up tomorrow out of habit and at some point realize you can actually go back to bed and sleep in.?
Well, do get some rest but there are a few things that need to be done quickly before the month’s end.
You probably got some form of severance package and rules to go along with it. There is all sorts of information in that packet you need to understand quickly.
Your FSA card for example; when will the funds you have there be unavailable. It is different from your medical insurance expiration and in my case I was informed of my layoff on a Tuesday, my FSA expired on Thursday the 31st and my last official day was on Friday the 1st and my insurance was good through the end of the following month. The problem is I did not realize my FSA was not going to be available and I missed out on the money I was saving up to get some dental work done.
I can’t tell you how to do things, but I wish I had read that part of my document a little closer.
As for finding a new job, that’s a whole new ballgame and I’m still trying to figure out how to play the game.
I’d appreciate any sharing you can do of my resume, and I have a list of very good software developers I can share as well.
