So who are all of these incredible women?

A small selection of some of the women I admire on a regular basis as I watch them at work in Auckland. Just a few. There are many MANY more and I hope this image shows you just how diverse our roles can be as women in hospitality. Restaurant employees and owners, producers, growers, hotel workers, professional services, sales, marketing & PR experts, and the list goes on...

A couple of years ago lovely chef Ainsley Rose Thompson reached out to me and asked if I might consider putting together an Auckland chapter for women in hospitality.

At the time I said no as I had too much on my plate. Well, my plate is still bloody full but we are all ALWAYS busy aren’t we? That’s never going to change.

At Cuisine we make a huge effort to give a voice to women in hospitality but they are not always easy to find. In fact, I’m ashamed to admit that so many fly under my radar.

And I’ve been thinking…

What would a group look like if it was open to professional women in Auckland from all facets of the hospitality industry, at every career stage, to ultimately create a great networking resource for all members to leverage?

It’s going to take a bit of work on our side so before I go down the rabbit hole, what say you?

Is this something that you might be interested in?

Together and with the right support, I think we might have the opportunity to do great work here and along the way build inspiring connections and inclusive networks.

At the very least I suspect the drinks and the snacks will be exceptional.

Please let me know if you think this might be something you’d like to be a part of and (yes, I’m getting in early) Happy International Women’s Day for tomorrow!

Kel.

Hi Kelli, as Emma mentioned I run an organisation called Women in Events NZ which is a peer to peer support network for women in the event’s industry. We definitely have crossover into the hospitality industry. You can find out more about us here - www.womeninevents.co.nz. I’d love to chat when you are clear of your print deadline. Thanks, Donna

Thank you all for this great feedback. It feels like there is definitely an appetite for the development of this group. I’m about to head down the rabbit hole of yet another print deadline. When I resurface I’ll put some more work into what this might look like with a few people that are more clever than me and come back with an update. Xx
