So What's This Bitcoin Thing?

The year is 2019 and perhaps out of curiosity, you find yourself intrigued by this “bitcoin” thing and you pour yourself a cup of warm Rooibos and seek to find out how it all works.

As the rain patters outside your cozy apartment window, your computer blinks as the flood of information sweeps through your eyes and Google proudly announces it’s 270 million results in 0.44 seconds.

Tech-Talk. Cryptography. Ugh. I was honestly feeling just as overwhelmed as you as I sipped my tea when I first googled “bitcoin” one Tuesday morning whilst waiting for my classes to begin.

My Bitcoin Journey Thus Far

I can’t precisely remember what triggered my initial interest in bitcoin. I figured it may have been my frustration with backward financial systems or frustrating bank visits that finally got onto my last nerve. Anyway, I eventually found myself in front of my computer trying to make sense of bitcoin and blockchain technology.

I’ve both invested in and read widely about most cryptocurrencies (cryptos), often skeptic at first, but then eventually intrigued by their vast potential and usefulness.

I’ve tried my hand at Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and done everything from teaming up with friends to build a blockchain-based real estate exchange to chasing airdrops and cross border arbitrage just to name a few.

A couple of years and many experiences later, I’ve garnered what I’d humbly call a tid-bit of knowledge in this space. I’d love to use this platform to help those who find themselves in similar situations of confusion or curiosity by condensing the World of Blockchain to what I hope is reader friendly and exciting.

What I’ll Be Blogging About

Ah yes! The meat! Together we are going to start right from the beginning, we are going to be talking about the various elements of blockchains, why they matter and how this technology can be applied to benefit us all.

What if I told you that in the future, in the age of driver-less cars and the Internet Of Things, your car could pay for its own toll gates, drive itself for a tune-up and even pay for the service all by itself! What if it were possible in this future to stream money instead of “downloading” it at the end of each month? What if children born today may only ever see paper money in museums?

Wouldn’t you want to know how this would all work, how it could unfold, and how you can prepare yourself for such a future?

One of the greatest challenges in the crypto community is that there is often little understanding of this technology and it’s far reaching implications. This means those most likely to be benefit from it are often completely unaware. Well, I hope to give you some of the most valuable information to help you understand where the blockchain technology and it's community are going — and be on top of the coming wave.

Why Does Any Of This Matter?

I’ve created this online space as a means for sharing knowledge in the crypto space and for us to be able to break down complex topics within the world of bitcoin and blockchain. Demystifying the wizardry for understanding by even muggles and you know… normal people.

As I hope you can tell by now, I’m extremely passionate about blockchain technology. I think that we can all see some of the greatest positive transformation in our society such as increased financial inclusion and more efficient markets.

Where are we going with all this?

Great Question! I hope to generate your interest in blockchain technology and increase your understanding of some of its details so that you can may applications of this technology in your own life and hopefully benefit! I also want to prepare you, through this journey, for what’s coming so you can best position yourself to navigate the coming future.

Remember that this is a journey for both of us, so I’ll be taking you along on many of my crypto adventures and sharing them with you in byte size chunks that you can get through while waiting for your water to boil or for your driver-less ride to arrive :)
