So, what IS the State of Social in 2024?

Our socials team have been out of office the past two days attending the State of Social conference (although does it count as being out of office if you practically live at Optus Stadium? Travis Hayto we’re looking at you…). This year is extra special as we are proud sponsors of the event for the first time, and we’re grateful to play a role in bringing State of Social to creative professionals across Perth.

So, what exactly is the State of Social in 2024?

We asked our team for their key takeaways, and when we tell you it was hard to narrow it down, we mean it! The conference was full of motivational keynote speakers, creative workshops and insightful strategies. Here’s some of the nuggets of gold we’ll be taking away and implementing in SoCo’s social team…

Don’t skimp on the narrative

Narrative is a powerful driver of value. A strong narrative can transform insignificant objects into significant ones, don’t underestimate its importance. Understand your audience, their values and interests, develop a narrative and curate content to connect with them on a deeper level.

Consistency, not virality

When you’re developing video and content plans focus on consistency over virality. You can’t pitch luck, but you can pitch strategy.

Get trendy

Know where socials are heading. Know your audience. Gen Z is a huge market on socials and are a powerful cohort that holds high standards for authenticity and innovation. Get on board or get left behind.

Don’t shatter the earth

Content doesn’t have to be ground breaking, it should be clever and simple. Tailor it to your target audience and make it simple. The purpose of your content is to get your audience to do the thing that you want them to do. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Be tech savvy, literally

Don’t use technology just because everyone else is doing it. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the sheer amount of technology available in 2024. Focus on using tech that is correctly suited to your target audience.
