So what is the picture all about, read on
So another OpenWorld comes to a close, over the last 23 years, I have always enjoyed the buzz of the event. I stayed on at HQ for three more days which was great. The move to cloud-based solutions is not about technology but more about the culture shift in customers to an agile usage of business solutions.
I was thinking about all the announcements and why does IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) get so much focus? For me, IaaS is the fundamental building block to any solution.
If you consider your house foundation, you do not know what it looks like, how deep, how strong it is to support your house. What you do know is the house would not exist without strong foundations and you trust that the builder and people who validate the work got their sums right. Cloud is no different, trusting the foundation is critical but can also be a key weakness. Larry spoke about security as the No.1 job and I so agree. I also believe that all the key areas from architecture principles are key. I spoke with Don Johnson during the conference (Head of engineering for IaaS) and the level of detail and passion he has for a great solution is second to none. What I really like is how the foundation is strong and deep in technology that provides a great base for any size business.
One of the questions I got post OpenWorld is: What about the people who could not travel to San Francisco? Do not worry as we have three events with a great line of customer presenters. We have back to back keynotes from specific companies who are going through transformations. To key the event off is an inspirational presentation from a child hero of mine.
More than 200 schools in the UK have been given access to key performance data. Data are given to inspire the younger generation to analyse and innovate new ideas for the future. The man behind this, former world land speed record holder, Richard Noble OBE.
No stranger to dreaming big, he now embarks on a new challenge of breaking 1000mph on land with the Bloodhound supersonic car. How? By embracing data gathered from over 500 sensors on the car and its driver streamed at the speed of sound, enabling the Bloodhound team extract new insights.
With data-insights helping the team to transform with ground-breaking innovation through technology, shouldn’t the same can be said for businesses? Use data to transform and innovate – putting you ahead of the curve.
In March 2016, Neil Sholay, Head of Digital at Oracle, wrote “As any digital leader can testify: the ability to fully connect enterprise services and data is integral to everything…” Unprecedented levels of insight can be gained from data, inherently creating entirely new business categories. Data is the source of ‘value add’ in the world economy. With business leaders taking advantage of the economics of information and connections to power business growth, are you shifting to becoming a data and insight-driven business?
TechCrunch recently reported that “If companies are to succeed, we need to rebuild around what’s possible, with the greatest toolkit we’ve ever seen.” With this in mind, now is the time to transform your IT with Oracle cloud. On Tuesday 1st November, we’ll be kick starting our UK and Ireland Oracle Cloud Days event series with our first stop, London. Join me and other like-minded individuals as we discuss how to embrace data and technology to benefit your organisation. This is the flagship cloud event of the year, where we’ll share our customer case studies, an update on the Oracle Cloud strategy, as well as demonstrate our cloud capabilities and use cases. Places are limited and very likely to fill up quickly, make sure you mark your diaries with your preferred date/location.

8 年I'm looking forward to the UK Oracle Days in London (1st November) and Manchester (8th November). Great to see the high caliber of customer and industry speakers including the Keynote by Richard Noble OBE, I've had the pleasure of seeing Richard speak before, he's probably the most interesting, engaging and ahead of his time technology leader in the UK. Over 15 years ago he and his team used crowd funding to entirely fund a speed record project long before any of us knew that crowd funding existed as a concept!
