So, What Then Must We Do?

If current reality is gloomy, when you accurately describe it (without understatement or exaggeration), the description will also be gloomy. This is not a time when one can defer to “the glass is half empty therefore the glass is half full” so take your pick. This is not a time to suggest you are either a pessimist or an optimist. This is a time to state exactly how full or empty the glass is according to empirical observations and scientific determinations, then take actions accordingly (for instance actions of resistance).

This post is not intended to cheer you up, but I acknowledge it remains a good thing to have posts that cheer you up (I even write some of those). This post is intended to be a wake-up call.

The power of ego consciousness freewill vision is rendered null if you are not oriented. Oriented means you are clear on your current reality and clear on your vision; you know where you are starting from and where you want to get to. That clear knowledge permits you to take the next step in the right direction, away from what you do not want, moving toward what you do want. When you compare those two kinds of truth information (current reality and vision), you can rationally make better choices and take more effective actions.

However bad external circumstances actually are, you are always left with conserved ego consciousness freewill, which means you get to choose your next action. You always get to choose your next step. It is literally impossible for your “being” to not be here now, but your ego conscious freewill responsibility is to make choices. Of course, if you are confined to a concentration camp you will have a different set of choice options than if you were roaming about in a vibrant democracy.

The federal government of the USA has now transformed from dolphin to shark, from sheep dog to wolf, from robin to vulture, from giraffe to hyena. The 47th president of the USA is not a George Washington; he is a Hitler. The federal government of the USA is now a fascist authoritarian oligarchy dictatorship. In my opinion the USA presidential election 2024 was rigged (stolen), but the fact remains that tens of millions of citizens voluntarily chose to vote for fascism and throw out democracy. If any recorded history survives a hundred years from now, the remaining human beings will be astonished by this unfolding tragedy.

I predict (this is not a vision!) that easily within less than 25 years, perhaps as soon as a decade, the world with be divided into two spheres of dictatorial control, approximately one half controlled by the USA and the other half controlled by China. All the other nations, and literally the entire population of Planet Earth will be effectively reduced to slavery. In the USA, concentration camps are already under construction in Texas, and they are already full in China.

Slavery will not be the worst of it. Extinction will be.

Accelerated extraction and use of fossil fuels and the relentless pursuit of economic growth without bound (disregarding any rational scientifically determined ecological limits), will manifest irresistible climate collapse apocalypse ecocide, which I predict will occur in less than 100 years, perhaps in as little as 50 years. Once a set of killer climate tipping points are breached (perhaps 5 of 15 already have been), climate collapse is a mathematical certainty. Climate collapse will violently dismantle even a fascist civilization (which is hardly a civilization at all). Think sea levels rising 10 feet, think at-scale agriculture failing resulting in mass starvation, think billions moving in forced migrations, think raging superstorms (hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, draughts, wildfires, etc.), sustained and irreversible wet-bulb heat temperatures, collapse of law and order, reduction to savagery for the surviving remnants of human population, multiple simultaneous raging pandemics, and finally extinction of the human population. Nature cares not for the survival of human beings. Nature is naturally beautiful, but merciless. No superstorm has ever apologized for killing people.

Division of Planet Earth into two spheres of dictatorial control will be ruthlessly and irresistibly enforced by overwhelming military, economic and technological power. No other imaginable union of remaining nation states could have any hope of making any effective resistance to that power. Expect guerilla resistance to increase exponentially across the planet.

It is not a bad thing that this is the fall of the historical American empire (many would welcome that, including myself), but replacing democracy with fascism and the inevitable climate collapse apocalypse ecocide that will follow, could have been avoided with as little as 5% of global gross domestic product (GDP) devoted to climate restoration. That is unfolding tragedy of epic existential extinction proportions (the US has already dropped out of the 2015 Paris agreement on climate emergency).

Today I weep with overwhelming sorrow. I am too old to physically resist the violence of fascism, but I encourage those who can resist by whatever methods can be effectively used. Harsh violent state conditions of reality call for different action than if you are living in paradise.

Whatever action of resistance you take (or refrain from taking), I remind you that what remains fully within your power and authority to do, is Be Here Now! You can always choose to do the right thing with the next step you take, and the one after that and the one after that…, without either attachment or avoidance.

However good or bad external circumstances are you can always act with ego conscious freewill intention honoring your core values. You can, if you choose, always do the right thing, though it may be almost impossible, because almost impossible is not actually impossible. You can love the one(s) you are with. You can act with kindness and generosity toward the one(s) you are with (family, friends,, neighbors and strangers).

Not even the most ruthless fascist can take that power of intentional freewill from you. Ego consciousness freewill is an irrevocable gift to you at birth. You might relinquish it voluntarily out of fear, intimidation and acts of violence against you and your loved ones, but it cannot be taken from you by any other human being, because no other human being gave it to you.

Perhaps your sense of humor can help keep you sane in these insane times. Survivors of the holocaust virtually all agree that a sense of humor is what helped them to survive.
