So what? ... Everything!

So what? ... Everything!

Yesterday, after my post related to the new Cloud UI in OCI, I have had a chance to discuss it during beer time with my friends. One of them has shrugged, with the simple statement:

-- So what...? We have automation and we don't care about UI, no matter it is OCI, AWS or anything else...

Hmmm... Let's say, I have been confused for a moment. I was trying to be focused and precise, trying to limit my excitement related to our OCI product. Let's say I was trying to be calm and rational, as much as it was possible. So I have started:

-- Ok, man! But let me understand how do you explore new options? This new cloud stuff, which used to be delivered every month or quarter in OCI? Are you really using REST API or Terraform as a first try? Or maybe you are trying to discover it with Cloud Console UI?

This time longer pause was on their side. My friend has taken another sip of beer...

-- Well... - he was trying to buy more time - ... Let me think... Maybe... I am not very open for the new stuff, I have no time for it... but to be honest... well ... maybe you are right... I use to start with UI...

The sigh of relief... so I am not an idiot, too excited to walk on the ground... That was my first thought, just after my friend has confirm something obvious to me. Cloud UI is more intuitive. This is for sure. On the other hand, Cloud UI is something crucial for building a trust. Trust between you and your cloud provider. I prefer to test the stuff there, in UI, first. Then in the second try, I use to work with automation such as Terraform or Cloud CLI. But first try is always there, in Cloud UI. And to be honest I think it is worth to return and test Cloud UI as much as possible.

I really admire the goal of OCI team to build trustful, elegant, modern and just cool UI. It will help us to onboard many customers in the future.

Luke.
