So we did this thing...

So we did this thing...

Earlier this year I found myself in a conversation with a friend and fellow AMA Houston Board Member about music. We were discussing how we both grew up in musical households where music was played everyday. For me it was either my father playing records or his guitar or my mother playing rock 'n' roll while she domestic goddessed our house. I learned at such a young age that music was a way to express yourself.

This discussion with my friend Candice Landry led to us talking about our current playlists, or as I like to call them "The Soundtrack To My Life", and how we each curate one per season. And yet we do it differently! I make playlists of the current music I am crushing on, indie hits and ambient tunes mostly. Candice uses her seasonal playlists to mark the mood, using current and former favorites to round them out. We started sharing our playlists with each other that day!

And that is how our podcast got started. Candice loves covers, discovering an original tune and then researching how many ways it has been recreated. I think it is because she is a literal scientist. I am a soundtrack junkie. The music in movies, TV shows, commercials, grocery stores (HEB y'all) and restaurants sets the mood, becomes another character to love. Each week we talk about a song and a soundtrack. Candice creates a music landscape, a graph where she charts the differences in the covers of her song pick. I dissect a soundtrack either from the point of view of the curator, or just my own personal connection to it. Oh, and we laugh a lot!

I hope that you, my network of professional people, will take the time to give us a listen. Maybe you like music too. Maybe you grew up in a musical household. Maybe you even have started curating your own funeral playlist (that bonus episode is on the way). But maybe, just maybe, you have had that moment where you worked on something really personal and you were really proud of it and you wanted to share it with the world. This podcast is that for me. Let me know what you think.
