So, are we completely in the shit now?

First we had the whole Brexit referendum fiasco, with lies and misinformation leading to a small minority voting us out of the European Union.
This led to the value of the Pound plummeting to new lows, not seen for many years, which has affected many businesses, such as ours, that import goods from outside the UK.
The only hope on the horizon is that the High Court have said that Parliament must have the final say on whether Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty is enacted, to take us out of the EU. The government can't use the Royal Prerogative to bypass Parliament.
Some are also saying that all the governments of the UK need to agree on Brexit before it can happen, so because both Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU it may not happen.
The government seems determined, however, to appeal against the High Court ruling and to push through a 'hard' Brexit, even though nobody voted on that and the whole referendum was 'advisory' anyway.
Last night Donald Trump won the US presidency after a campaign of xenophobia, racist and misogynistic remarks and promises to nuke Europe and pull out of the Paris agreement on climate change.
With the Republicans winning both the Senate and the House last night, it looks like Big Business will be reaping the rewards for the next few years.
This doesn't bode well for wildlife and the planet and I fear for what we might see happen.
Perhaps now's the time to find somewhere remote to build a shack and live off the land, before the shit really hits the proverbial fan?

8 年Trump tweeted in 2012 that "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive." and vowed to “cancel” the UN Paris climate change agreement if elected. Since the USA pollutes more than the whole of the EU combined, the US Election seems likely to have a much worse impact on biodiversity than Brexit. Not to mention that the latter may not really happen.

8 年It is astounding what money can do to blind people's judgement, for the elections. What a shame on the poor turnout too.
