I joined Dell EMC less than a month now, and how I am happy I did. First of all, I'm grateful that I was one of the selected candidates, I can promise nothing else than my best every day and try hard to become better every day.
In this 4 weeks now, I learned so much about Dell EMC culture and particularly about SDST where I am. The people are amazing, I think of everyone not as a co-worker but as family, friends, everyone made me feel so welcome since the first day, to be hones, even before the first day, the first contact on a social media network that I won't mention but it starts with "L" ends with "N" and in the middle has the letters "INKEDI", I must say, I had an issue with my CV, I've sent it over probably hundreds of times as I got contacts for new opportunities, and this was the first time I can say that someone actually read it, as I had something along the lines with "Enter your career history here" (shame on me).
To be honest, I thought that was the end of it, but for my surprise I got contacted by Marina Bizera who explained me the whole adventure, and asked me if I was brave enough to accept the mission, quickly the interview with Fergal Gunn and Darren Hayes was happening. I felt so welcome that I was kind of sad inside, as if I wasn't selected I would miss this guys, the whole process was like another day at work, we talked about possible scenarios, I kept a positive attitude, cracked a few jokes and went home thinking I would never be selected to work with this guys.. But guess what, as you might expected, they picked me! Yay! \o/
What have I been doing so far? I got my stuff to work in a blink of an eye, the Tribe/Squad, specially Joanna who explained me what to do. Since I didn't work with this technology stack for a while, yes, I'm mostly a .net developer, but always had a will to learn more about other technologies, I started reviewing and viewing new courses of the current technology stack on Pluralsight and in no time, I was contributing and being productive on my Squad.
This was an unreal experience for me, as this was the first time that I felt part of the team from day one, everyone was available to help even if it meant stop what they were doing, and that, for me, is priceless. A big shout out to Laurence and Lucasz, thanks guys!
As I'm always dreaming awake and my granny used to say that I "made castles in the clouds" I'm always thinking about new or sometimes different ideas to do stuff or solve problems, so I engaged with Eamon and Karen on my second week in a "Black ops" "Majestic Eyes only" project undergoing, that I expect to write more about it really soon. I can't stop thinking that this would never happen in a "normal" company, The support, the attention, the resources that were provided to pursue this idea, mean the world to me.
I volunteered for the Great Place To Work 2019 team, and have provided dozens of ideas, so far, to make Dell EMC even a Greater Place To Work and facilitated my first "Lunch and Learn", and I'm just getting started!
Yesterday I created the Innovation Chapter, a task-force that will create awareness about innovation, and provide the means for everyone to be creative and express their ideas for anything, which then, will be discussed by everyone interested and when valuable enough, we will make the necessary effort to get it heard.
I even pitched an idea to Patrick Mooney how cool is that?
I'm taking a course about Innovation Management by the Erasmus University Rotterdam on Coursera which is going to provide me the tools to leverage this initiative and provide help to anyone who needs it and hopefully, make SDST the most creative and innovative department at Dell EMC and who knows, change the world and make it a better place.
Stay tuned :) ...
