This is SO moving! Why Mick Collins is donating all book royalties

Mick writes:?

'Last week I shared on social media that my new book is now published. I mentioned that I give all the authors royalties from my three books to charity. Here’s the story about how I was inspired to do this.?

In 2014 I met a true miracle worker, the year before I retired from my job as a university lecturer. I had been invited to the Hay Festival of Literature to be interviewed by the wonderful Andy Middleton about my first book, The Unselfish Spirit. It was an incredibly prestigious event for a first-time author. However, I noticed in the brochure that there was a talk by Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, who is the founder of a charity called Mary’s Meals. I had previously read an article in The Guardian newspaper about the work of the charity, so my wife and I decided to attend the talk. We listened attentively as Magnus described how the charity had at that point in time managed to feed a million impoverished children in Africa from a humble shed in Scotland.

The talk by Magnus ranks amongst one of the most emotional and inspirational speaking events I have ever attended.?There was hardly a dry eye in the marquee as he recounted the incredible work of the charity. After the talk my wife and I decided to buy a copy of Magnus’s book, as all the royalties were being ploughed back into the charity to feed and educate young children living in dire poverty. We joined the long queue to purchase a signed copy of the book from Magnus, who was sitting at one of the many tables assigned to authors. The marquee was huge and there were rows of shelves that stocked all the speakers’ books. As the queue got nearer to where Magnus was sitting, I noticed the table was positioned directly in front of the shelves that stocked my book. It was a perfect alignment and a wonderful synchronicity. I turned to my wife and said it was a meaningful sign that we should give all the author’s royalties from my book to Mary’s Meals. She agreed. I often feel as though synchronicities (like the one above) are angelic connections, which are guiding and assisting us. When we eventually met Magnus we thanked him for his inspirational work and told him that we would be donating all the author’s royalties to his charity. It was a wonderful moment and it changed my life in a subtle, but nonetheless profound way. I also donated all the author’s royalties from my second book, The Visionary Spirit, and I will do so with this book too – The Restorative Spirit.?

When I met Magnus, it dawned on me that I had written a book about The Unselfish Spirit, and here I was buying a book from a person who epitomised what I had theorised. Intuitively, I knew that the meeting with Magnus was an opportunity to go deeper into the spirit of unselfishness and to put what I had written into practice. Magnus’s dedication to his work is a beacon of light in this world. Allan Kardec sums up the work of such generous souls, as the “attracting power” of faith, which is deepened when we live more wisely, charitably, innocently and with loving kindness. I see all of these heart-centred qualities at work in Mary’s Meals. We should not underestimate the power of doing good works, which bring dignity, charity, justice and love to the lives of others. Such actions bring the souls of givers and receivers together, so that both sides can participate and shine in the reciprocity of generosity, gratitude and beneficence.'
