So Many People Dislike Their Jobs. What Do You Like About Yours? ??Help a Project Manager Out! (#HAPMO, September 2019)

LinkedIn is a community that allows unparalleled access to each other for learning, inspiration, and help. I am continually inspired by those of us who regularly engage here. I learn on a daily basis, which makes me want to give back even more. And I know many of you feel the same way.

Help a Project Manager Out! (#HAPMO) is a pro bono initiative designed to help everyone who has an interest or passion for delivering projects. It doesn't matter what your title or industry is. It doesn't matter if you are currently leading projects or hope to do so someday.

There's a community of professionals here who want to help.

Here's How It Works

Twice a month I post an article that looks very similar to this. Typically it is mid-month and start of a new month.

Start Here

???????? Include the hashtag #hapmo on your posts that are relevant to people leading and directing projects. Our global following will see your posts in their feed, which can lead to more engagement with your posts.

???????? Follow the #hapmo hashtag on LinkedIn. Instead of relying on LinkedIn’s algorithm, you can make sure that helpful PM-related posts are included in your feed. Comment on posts to share your insights, which will Help a Project Manager Out!

Are you leading a project and looking for some insights? Leave a comment with your question or situation. Some of the top project thinkers from around the world might just share their thoughts.

Are you a hiring manager or recruiter looking for project-related pros? Keep an eye on the comments. The person you're looking for might just be there.

Want to expand your network? Watch for the people who engage here and reach out to them. Connect and start engaging with them. If you and I are not already connected, let's fix that! Connect with me here: Andy Kaufman. And connect with others you see who interact in the comments.

??What Do You Like About Your Job?

Someone recently told me that, among his friends, it seems like everyone hates their jobs. Maybe hate is over-stating it (or not), but let’s say there’s not a whole lot of joy being experienced at work by that circle of friends.

At Barry-Wehmiller, they famously seek “to send our team members home safe, well and fulfilled by their time with us. Our commitment is to the total wellbeing of our associates and their family members.

B-W has an impressive if not perfect track record of living out that aspiration. But pick your favorite engagement survey—the results tend to paint a picture that looks a lot more like that “circle of disgruntled friends” than “Barry-Wehmiller”.

There are clearly people in project-related roles that dislike their jobs. But in my work with organizations around the world, I find that many people responsible for leading projects and teams like—even enjoy—many aspects of their jobs. If there are struggles in the role, often they say it has to do with a bad boss or dysfunctional culture more than the job itself.

It would be easy for us to elaborate on the challenges of our jobs as leaders of teams and projects. But in this HAPMO edition, let’s take a more positive twist.

???????? Leave a comment ????????

What do you like about your job? Though no job is perfect, what are the elements of leading people and projects that you truly enjoy—find engaging and satisfying? And what have you done to create these conditions for yourself? Leave a comment to share your insights with us all. You might just encourage and inspire some of your colleagues by your response.

???????? Come on, folks. Let's Help a Project Manager Out! ???????? Post your responses in the comments below.

And help get the word out by giving this a Like and sharing this with your colleagues. Thanks!

80% people do not like their jobs because many time your job description demands something and actual job role demands something. Many time you need to do which is not mentioned in your job description due to which people get frustrated. Top job placement consultancy in Pune India

I will be honest and say the work I am doing at Walgreens today does not feel like a job.? I love that no two days are ever the same, and that my insights are welcomed.? I also like that I am challenged by my business partners to find better ways to execute on our programs and projects all of the time.? I also believe that all of the work we do directly impacts patient outcomes which I am very passionate about!? Every time we help a patient remain adherent to their medication regimen, we directly improve their health outcomes and that is a win in my book every day of every week!?? Thank you for the invite Andy Kaufman!
