So Long Summer 2019, Tokyo 2020 here we come.
Hello Everyone,
September is coming to a close with a little under three weeks left in Q3 2019! Crazy. The past three months have been MASSIVE for the team at CGSM: World Champs; Pan Ams; World Cup; LEAD Sports Summit; Back2Back Swim Camp West & East.
FINA Worlds was absolutely nuts
The 2019 FINA World Champs was held in Gwangju, South Korea. I had the opportunity to attend in person for 7 days and it was an adventure to say the least! The highlights include: Maggie Steffens leading the US Women's National Team to their 3rd Worlds title, something that has never been done before in the history of the sport (got to watch this live sitting next to Maggie's dad, Carlos). Getting to see Olivia Smoliga become an individual world champion in the 50 meter backstroke and set a NEW American Record in the process. Watching Leah Smith swim one of the toughest and gutsiest 400 freestyles I have ever seen to win a bronze medal.
The not so fun part of Gwangju was having to spend a half day in a Korean hospital and having a 100 degree fever for about 48 hours. But did this stop me from going to watch finals in person in the sweltering South Korean heat? OF COURSE NOT!
Big Media Projects and Beisel on Survivor
On the media production side we partnered with our friends at ADIDAS to launch a major media campaign around Paralympian McKenzie Coan for the ADIDAS Women "Breaking Barriers" commercial.
The team at NowThis and the International Fencing Federation collaborated with CGSM to document a brilliant piece on 2-time US Olympic Fencer, Dagmara Wozniak. It's media pieces like this that can really help boost an athlete's position in the market and lead to more deals and sponsorship opportunities down the road.
Oh, but wait, there's more...Elizabeth Beisel will be on CBS's Survivor Season 39, POW! Beisel is our first client to be on a major network television series and we are extremely excited to cheer her on each week! Season premier is September 25th at 8:00pm est on CBS.
Uncle Yung's first Podcast Episode
On the personal side, I had the opportunity to be a guest on the Chris Desantis Coaching Podcast, "The Swim Brief". We talked about one of my favorite topics: Sales! I shared tips on how to sell local sponsorships; how I started CG Sports Management and hinted at ideas for a future episode. Thank you to Chris Desantis and check out my episode here: Sports Agent Cejih Yung on The Swim Brief
Insight into the world of professional Olympic athletes and agents
We get a lot of requests to share more insight into what is going on in the industry with professional athletes, sponsors, market trends and essentially the looming question of "How does this all work?" Over the next few weeks I will be writing more about these topics in a blog which will live on our CG Sports Management homepage (P.S. head to our News section, you will find the first one there!). The goal is to help educate and demystify the world of sports agents; Olympic athletes; how sponsorship works; what makes a good brand partner and other relevant topics. I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes and hearing what everyone thinks.
Thank you for all or your support for our athletes and the team at CGSM - Tokyo 2020 here we come!
