So, I'm doing something different.

So, I'm doing something different.

Earlier this week, I did something crazy. Maybe not like CRAZY crazy, but certainly change the direction of my life crazy.

After taking a year off academics, I had (somewhat) triumphantly returned to Ann Arbor, ready to dive back into school. I had my desk set up, my suit jacket pressed (no need for suit pants on zoom), and I was ready to be a business student again. It turns out that I was WRONG.

I had underestimated the amount of personal change I had undergone in the last year and was miserable in every business class I was taking. By Wednesday night, I was burnt out, and I still had to sit through a three hour English course.

I've always had an inclination for writing, and this course was called "The Art of the Personal Essay" and came highly recommended by a friend of mine (shoutout to @Jake Schwartz). When I was registering for classes, I wanted some variety in my schedule, and this class sounded like just the thing.

About a half-hour into the class, I was in love. The professors were incredible, the content was fantastic, and it was the most fun I'd had in a college class, even over Zoom! I needed more of this and fewer business classes, but how? So, I did what any twenty-one year old would do; I called my Dad and described my predicament.

"Why don't you just become an English major?" He asked.

An elegant solution, I had to admit.

"Yeah, I'll do that," I replied.

So I sent my academic advisor an email, figured out if I could still graduate on time (I can), and away I went. By the end of the day Thursday, I had dropped all my business courses and replaced them with English classes. Boom.

I don't want anyone to misunderstand me, Ross has given me so much, and I'm incredibly glad I got to spend two years of my life there. I'm super grateful for the things I learned, the time I got to spend, and (most importantly) the people I met. It was just time for me to do something different.

Catch me on a park bench somewhere scribbling words (or just message me on LinkedIn, some things never change.)
