So, I tried to help adapt our cities to extreme heat & floods. ?? ???

It took us half a year to screen over 1,000 innovators working on making the future of our cities a Utopia. Meet some of the semi-finalists of the Adaptive Cities Innovators Awards, 2024 edition!

Earlier last year, I had the chance to meet one of the executives of one of France’s largest construction companies with global renown: Bouygues Construction.

Credit, Bouygues Construction.

Through our discussion, I learned a few numbers that staggered me:

  • 92% of the buildings standing today will be used in 2050. The construction activity of conglomerates like Bouygues is shifting to become 70% retrofitting and only 30% construction of new buildings.
  • In the US alone, nearly half of homes face the threat of extreme weather events as a result of a 1.5-degree climate change, putting $22 trillion worth of real estate assets at risk (CBS).
  • The global energy retrofit market was valued at USD 148.2 billion in 2021. It is projected to reach USD 216.5 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 4.3% during the forecast period (2022–2030).

So, 4 months ago, our Atlas Climate Tech Coalition’s team decided to partner up with a few conglomerates in the real estate space.

Asian Development Bank, CBRE, Bouygues Construction, JLL, SCG, and several more conglomerates joined our cause to help retrofit our cities and homes.

And that was it, with our partners and judges onboard…

We were now on an adventure to find the most tangible solutions to help our homes keep their comforts, in a high-temperature fluctuating world.

Introducing: https://adaptivecitiesinnovatorsawards.com/

250+ applicants reviewed later…

While the Olympics have just begun in Paris, across the Atlantic Ocean, this week, our team was reviewing the hundreds of technical comments of our judges on the semi-finalists of our award.

The 10 finalists will be showcased to over 100 active climate investors and conglomerates during our flagship event during the New York Climate Week in September 24th, 2024! ??

Most importantly, we will co-invest up to $250,000 with some of our conglomerate partners into some of the finalists that received the most traction!

Looking for Pala, the Climate Adaptive City.

Today, to help you understand the space of climate tech, we are zooming in a few examples of the semi-finalist companies decarbonizing and adapting the built environment that have been surfaced by our award! ????
