Not So Horrible Bosses

Not So Horrible Bosses

Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, I got stationed in Des Moines, Iowa. Was new to recruiting for the medical side of the Army. Got really good after several failures. Won a few awards and life wasn’t too shabby. The problem was all the paperwork.

My boss came up with an idea. He said, “Hey Crumbley, what if I did your paperwork for you? That way all you had to do was recruit and not worry about the paperwork.”

Couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Are you serious? Yes indeed.

What do you think happened? Ok. Think about it for a second. If you’re a top producer bringing a lot of people in… that’s a LOT of paperwork ??

My boss started doing my paperwork and production doubled. We were rolling!

Low and behold I get stationed back in Houston. First day meeting my boss I tell her, “I’m really good at recruiting but I don’t know how to do the paperwork.”

You should have seen her face. Almost looked like she was about to cuss.

Instead she asked, “Crumbley, why don’t you know how to do the paperwork?”

Because I brought so many people in. My last boss did the paperwork for me.

She said, “Well, if you’re that good I’ll do your paperwork. But you better be bringing some people in.”

In six months time my new boss was doing my paperwork. I would try to help with the paperwork and she would say, “Gone get outta here!”

Takes time to build up to something like that but anything is possible. Dare to be different. Work smarter.

Study to show thyself approved.
