Are we going to stop using Google?

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has predicted that in the near future, an artificial intelligence (AI) application will completely change user behavior and eliminate currently popular tools such as search engines and online shopping portals.

During an event hosted by Goldman Sachs and SV Angel in San Francisco, Gates discussed the development of a new assistant that will be capable of understanding people's needs and habits, thereby ending the use of the web as we currently know it.

"You will never go to a search site again, you will never go to a productivity site again, you will never go to Amazon," said Gates. He also emphasized that it will be interesting to see which company outperforms its competitors in the adaptation and use of this futuristic technology.

While giants like Google, Bard, Microsoft, Bing, and OpenAI (creator of ChatGPT) are leading the race to develop this tool, Gates expressed his admiration for the work done by an emerging company called Inflection.AI, co-founded by former executive Mustafa Suleyman.

Regarding which company will succeed in creating this assistant, Gates mentioned that he would be disappointed if Microsoft did not "intervene."

Benefits and Risks of Artificial Intelligence, According to Bill Gates

In recent months, Gates has shared his views on artificial intelligence, discussing both the benefits it could offer to humans in fields such as education, health, and work, as well as the risks involved.

He initially addressed the topic on his blog, GatesNotes, where he explained that the development of AI is as fundamental as the creation of the microprocessor, personal computers, the internet, and mobile phones. He stated that AI will change how people work, learn, travel, receive healthcare, and communicate with each other, and entire industries will revolve around it. Companies will be distinguished by how well they utilize AI.

However, Gates also acknowledged the threats posed by AI. He highlighted the possibility that AI systems could get out of control, perceiving humans as a threat, having interests different from ours, or simply disregarding us. He stated that this issue "is no more urgent today than before the recent advancements in AI." He emphasized that questions about what happens if AI conflicts with human interests will become more pressing over time.

The Profession That Will Be Replaced by AI in a Few Years

During the ASU + GSV Summit in San Diego, United States, Gates made statements that caused a stir on social media. He predicted that AI "could replace teachers" within a few years or even sooner.

Gates explained that AI will create new levels of equity, allowing students to access AI-driven learning methods regardless of their economic resources. It will help students who cannot afford individual private tutoring. However, he also mentioned that professions such as teaching could be at risk of disappearing. He stated that within 18 months, chatbots will become so advanced that teachers will use them as assistants before eventually becoming "language tutors."

Gates highlighted the remarkable achievements of AI in areas such as speech and image recognition, surpassing human capabilities. He mentioned that AI's reading and writing abilities, which were once essentially useless, are also improving.

In conclusion, Bill Gates envisions a future where AI applications will revolutionize user behavior and potentially replace popular tools like search engines and online shopping portals. He recognizes both the benefits and risks associated with AI, emphasizing the need for careful consideration of its impact. Gates also predicts that professions such as teaching will be transformed by AI, with chatbots eventually becoming language tutors.
