Snowchange Cooperative, a non-profit organization based in Finland that seeks to promote traditional knowledge and livelihoods in policy formulation and practice.

Since 2019, together with Snowchange Cooperative, we have carried out around 15 diverse projects ranging from mapping traditional knowledge to strengthening food sovereignty.

Through our work we have contributed to the Snowchange Landscape Rewilding Program, which seeks to conserve intact ecosystems and restore habitats that have been disturbed by industrial land use, mining, forestry and hydroelectric projects.

Our main actions have been:

  1. The conservation of Kivisuo, an intact natural peatland of over 1,517 acres that harbors a rich biodiversity and natural carbon.??
  2. The restoration of the Kissapuro River, one of the main streams of Lake Jukaj?rvi, habitat of endemic mammals, fish, amphibians and birds.
  3. The conservation of the transboundary Njauddam river basin, located on the northern border of Finland and Norway, which is home to the Skolt Sámi people.
