Snooze, and you don't lose.

Want a great, and free, way to be more effective at your job???

Get seven to eight hours of restful sleep every night.?Think I’m kidding?

Let me give you a few facts:

According to the Lancet Medical Journal sleep deprived people, that is people who get less than seven hours of sleep a night make 20% more errors.?Let that sink in for a second.

If you don’t get enough good sleep you’re giving your competition a 20% advantage.?In a 30-day sales cycle, that’s almost a week’s head start.?Why would you do that when, aside from parents of newborns, you have complete control over how much sleep you get?

If this isn’t enough incentive for you, Arianna Huffington, who is reportedly worth over $2 billion and wrote a book on sleep said, It’s clear that if we are going to truly thrive, we must begin with sleep.

Warren Buffet said, When forced to choose, I will not trade even a night’s sleep for the chance of extra profits.

So here are a few steps you can take to improve your sleep regimen:

  1. Use what I call a Digital Turndown.?Two hours before you want to be asleep, turn off the TV and all electronics.?Digital electronics emit blue light which confuses your melatonin release into thinking it is still the middle of the day.
  2. Use those two hours to do something positive.?Write in your success journal, meditate, or listen to something positive.?Put yourself in the right frame of mind for the next eight hours.
  3. Make sure your room is dark and cool.?This will make you comfortable and signal to your brain it’s time for sleeping.??

These three things will form a habit after a week or two.?Then, it will be easier and easier.

It’s popular now to get up a 4 am or 5 am.?It’s quiet then and many people feel they can get more done at that hour.?That’s fine.?Because it’s not when you get up.?It’s when you go to sleep.?If you want to get up at 5 am just be asleep by 9 pm.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention napping.?We are the only species on earth that tries to go from awakening in the morning to sleeping at night without any sleep in between.?The Romans napped at noon and called it Sexta.?In Latin America, they call it Siesta.?It’s been proven to lower your blood pressure, decrease your risk of a heart attack, make you calmer and for business people, give you a burst of energy, when you most need it in the afternoon to make those extra calls, touch base with customers, or complete a big proposal.??

So, here’s your Action Item and mission this week, should you decide to accept it:??

Develop your nighttime ritual.?Start with a Digital Turndown, add in positivity, and go to sleep for eight hours.?Seems pretty simple right??It is.?And the benefits to you are huge.

A good sleep routine is just one more tool to help us be the best we can be.???

Take another step this week toward being the best you can be.

You and your business will absolutely be better off from getting seven to eight hours of restful sleep a night.???

By sharing we all help each other.?And the world could use a little bit more of that.

Remember, one hand washes the other and together they get clean.

Thanks for watching.?Lots more to come.

Have a rewarding week.??And I’ll see you next time.
