Do you struggle to get out of bed in the morning? Do you hit the snooze button multiple times before finally dragging yourself out of bed? You're not alone. Many people have a love-hate relationship with the snooze button. It might give you a few extra minutes of sleep, but is it worth it? In this article, we'll explore the adverse effects of hitting the snooze button and provide practical tips for breaking the habit.
The Snooze Button: How it Works
The snooze button is a feature on most alarm clocks and smartphones that allows you to delay the alarm for a few minutes. When you hit the snooze button, the alarm will go off again after a preset amount of time (usually 5-10 minutes), giving you a few extra minutes of sleep. For instance, Serwaa is a busy working mom who hits the snooze button every morning. She thinks she's getting a few additional minutes of sleep, but she's interrupting her sleep cycle and waking up feeling groggy and tired. She's also always rushed in the morning, which makes her feel stressed and frazzled throughout the day. Kwame is a college student who hits the snooze button multiple times before finally getting out of bed. He thinks he's getting a few extra minutes of sleep, but he's making himself more tired and less productive. He often skips breakfast and arrives late to class, which impacts his grades and overall performance.
The Negative Effects of Hitting the Snooze Button
While hitting the snooze button might seem harmless, it can negatively affect your health and productivity. Here are a few examples:
Lack of Quality Sleep: When you hit the snooze button, you interrupt your sleep cycle. Your body will start to fall back into a deep sleep, only to be abruptly awakened a few minutes later. This can leave you feeling groggy and tired throughout the day.
Decreased Productivity: Hitting the snooze button can also make you feel rushed and stressed in the morning. You might need more time to get ready, skip breakfast, or arrive late to work. This can negatively impact your productivity and performance throughout the day.
Increased Stress Levels: Hitting the snooze button can also increase stress levels. You might feel guilty or anxious about oversleeping or being late, which can cause you to feel more stressed throughout the day.

1 年I understood everything in this article but I just wasn’t happy with Dr. Dennis asking me to wake up without snoozing my alarm. I called him immediately, and he taught me this trick. He said to count 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 when the alarm clock goes off then straight out of bed. I’m going to move my wake up time to 15 mins later and try this tomorrow morning ??????
