Snippets from the Age of COVID-19: May 6, 2020.
The sky was blue. The sun was sending its benevolent rays down to an awaiting throng. It was the perfect day, except that the group of 20 cyclists was less than one foot away from each other during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I saw this scene as I was on my way to work. It was one of many as the crowds enjoy a warm spring day, forgetting all about the virus that was ready to ounce upon them. Hadn't they learned from all the news coverage that COVID-19 is a serious disease? Hadn't they seen the bodies lined up for burial in countries around the globe?
These are serious times! They call for self-discipline. Did these people have a death wish or a longing to go to ICU? Did they think themselves indestructible? Are they delusionally repeating the mantra that this cannot happen to me?
The setting up for a tragic second wave has begun. The COVID-19 pandemic has not magically gone away. Only death and suffering awaits those who foolishly refuse to take responsibility for warding off this malady.
