Snippets from the Age of COVID-19: May 27, 2020.
It is a sad commentary on the treatment of the elderly in nursing homes in both Canada and the United States of America that has come to the fore during this COVID-19 pandemic. These hapless people have been warehoused away, receiving substandard care, and waiting for the privilege to die.
Many have cried out about assisted suicide, loudly proclaiming that life is precious and sacred, but have virtually ignored the elderly who are suffering in almost concentration camp-like conditions. I would dare to say that this condition is either assisted neglect or assisted torture.
What's more, the actual cost of this "care," and I use the term loosely, is outrageously expensive! The lion's share goes to the operators of these stinking warehouses of human suffering while as little as possible is siphoned off to maintain life of the residents for the purpose of profit.
While there are many nursing home residences that have and maintain excellent care, the decrepit ones do make the news. The high numbers of deaths are a sad testimony to contemporary society's attitudes to the aged. Once you go past a certain age, you're expendable.
The dissolution of the extended family that has continued to advance in the developed nations has to be stopped. Otherwise, the plight of the elderly will become much worse!
