Snippets from the Age of COVID-19: May 24, 2020.
After several days of rain and overcast skies, the sun shone so brilliantly that the mountains beckoned me to escape from the urban jungle. The car ride was refreshing as farmland rushed past us and the mountains rose majestically in the distance.
As we got closer to Bragg Creek, a huge line of vehicles came into view. It was as if there was a migration of disgruntled city dwellers from Calgary wanting to enjoy the freedom of the mountain parks. I'd had never seen such a traffic jam before and realized that it was pointless to go to our favorite mountain hangouts.
We decided to stop by Bragg Creek, a hamlet, west of Calgary, where there is a medium-sized strip mall. We decided to get a bite to eat from Carl's Jr. The COVID-19 pandemic closed the dining area, but we were still able to get take out food and proceeded to the log seats available.
Most of the people that I saw weren't wearing masks. Physical distancing, though practiced by some, was nonexistent with the bikers who came to Bragg Creek in droves. I wonder how many of them will become infected with COVID-19.
We found a log seat and enjoyed our meal under the blazing sun. It was great to literally eat out once more!
I stopped by a candy shop. The employees there wore masks and gloves. although the customers didn't. I quickly got an allotment of Sugar Babies that you can only get in the U.S. but can find in some rare locations in Alberta.
We made it out of the Bragg Creek traffic jam and headed east towards Calgary where we wound up on the ring road, Stoney Trail, heading north and ultimately made it back to Airdrie.
We were glad to be home again. Here's hoping that the Second Wave of the COVID-19 pandemic won't be a big one, although I have my doubts.
