Snippets from the Age of COVID-19: April 18, 2020.

The adage that the truth will come out in the wash can be aimed at authoritarian regimes like China. The mounting international disbelief in China's actual deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic has forced its leadership to upgrade the casualty rate by 50%. The adjustments officially come from funeral sources, adjustments to under-reporting, etc.

|I remember reading articles about enormous cremation outputs taken by satellites that far exceeded the official casualty lists in Wuhan. The evidence of lies was literally floating in the air. Plausible deniability was ruled out by the amount of output of cremation. The Chinese leadership was going into the abyss and the only option was to come clean.

It seems sad that when confronted with real evidence, the propaganda story changed. This does not reinforce confidence in a land of totalitarian supremacy.
