A sneak preview of our BERRI animation and film
We have just had an anonymised case example of how BERRI changed a child's life made into a short animation. I'd love to hear any feedback before we finalise it and put it on the website.

The story is of a teenage boy with destructive behaviour, who had broken down several placements. Using BERRI enabled staff and social workers to see that underlying the behaviour there was significant depression. Looking back through his paperwork, this appeared to relate back to an important element of his life story that had been lost in all the changes of staff and placements. Treating the depression, and helping him explore the underlying issues in therapy, made a significant change in his behaviour that opened up other placement possibilities, and in the long term saved the placing authority a lot of money.
I have also been filmed talking a bit about BERRI, in this 3.5 minute overview:

Apart from how cringe-inducing it is to see myself on camera, I think the videographers did a really good job of capturing what it is all about. Again, I'd be interested in any feedback before we put the video onto the website.

5 年Hi Miriam. It's really good. If I was to change anything it would be around 1:40 where it states "within a few months he was able to move out his care home" . I think it's unclear if these few months include (a) the time for the Berri assessment, trust building, therapy and forming attachments as well as the time to prepare, plan & facilitate a move to foster care OR (b) if the few months relate to the period after therapy and include only the time to plan & facilitate a move to foster care. I just think it's important to make that bit clear as to someone with commissioning responsibilities who may not have operational experience, they may get the impression that the period from starting the BERRI assessment through to moving to foster care can take just a few months (I am presuming this is not what the video is meant to suggest?).? It may also be worth considering making a reference to the likely future costs saved as a result of the support provided to Daniel. That the likelihood that costs associated with mental health services, criminal justice, adult support services, benefits etc will have been reduced.

5 年Miriam,? Its a really good video.? Simple and to the point.? The music adds the emotion to the story while the text provides hard-hitting facts - especially about costs.? Nice work Miriam!!
