A Sneak Preview of a Brisbane Riverfront Icon
Having grown up in the small country town of Maryborough, I was grateful to develop a deep appreciation for possibly some of Queensland's most beautiful examples of traditional architecture.
For many years, I would watch in dismay to see one of Brisbane's most iconic?homes, "Lamb House" at Kangaroo Point, decay with neglect.?
Built in 1902-03 for John Lamb, the successful co-proprietor of Queen Street store Edwards & Lamb, the property is a rare example of a federation residence in Brisbane, designed by architect Alexander B Wilson.
Like many, I was delighted when it was purchased two years ago by corporate identities Steve and Jane Wilson for $12.75million with a passion to restore the magnificent home to its former glory.?
The Wilson's this week generously opened up their incredible property, allowing a rare insight into the mammoth multi-million dollar restoration, documented by the ABC. Mr Wilson said the project, which they first estimated would cost about $15million, began in the "save it" stage.
Photos below, show a roof ready to cave in.
