SND News + Events: 2017 Wrap-Up!
Happy New Year to my beloved arts & letters family!
As we round the corner into 2018, there's just enough time to sneak in one last 2017 round up, and this is it. Last year was a bear, but there was a lot of beauty in it, too. Perhaps I'm feeling more relaxed and hopeful because we just got back from a trip to Quintana Roo, where per the above pic, I checked "climb a Mayan ruin" off my bucket list. The whole thing was a bit magical! Back on this plane of reality, I realized how many wonderful things had happened in the last months of 2017 -- so much writing! but also I sat for two very special portraits, exhibited my own art, and (my mom's favorite) I was a Finalist and won Second Place in the Best Critic, Art & Books category at the LA PRESS CLUB awards!
It was a huge honor indeed, but now...back to work. Get ready for some reading.
For ART AND CAKE I had a chance to review some truly impressive exhibitions. Cristobel Valecillos dazzled at Timothy Yarger Fine Art's PST LA|LA show; likewise Miguel RIo Branco at Christopher Grimes. Lynda Benglis was brilliant at Blum & Poe; and Shepard Fairey teamed up with Library Street Collective for an indie blockbuster. Finally, all the Art & Cake writers picked our five favorite shows of the year!
