Will Snapchat be superior at the next industry glasses?

Maybe you've heard, maybe you haven't - however Snapchat - renamed Snap inc. on 24th of September - is planning a release for their first hardware in the upcoming fall. Will they with their next product: "Spectacles" once again do what other social networks haven't really been able to do?

In this article i will quickly introduce you to Spectacles and then give you some generel ideas on how your business may benefit from this.

Upon release the glasses will be available in 3 different colors including: black, blue & red.

In their news-release they describe the glasses' features like:

" Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view. Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer your Memories directly into the app in our brand new circular video format."

So 24th of September 2016 was a big day for Snap Inc. - not only did they change their company name but they also made a public statement on their upcoming glasses names "Spectacles".

With this basic understanding of what Spectacles is and what it can do, let's get into some of the aspects in how your company may benefit from these. The following haven't been declared or stated but are simply some personal ideas on what the future may include.

• Live recording of events, product demos, locations, short interviews and more from a brand new angle in a new format unlike used before.
• Engaging customers with behind the scenes footage.
• Showcase of products or goods directly to followers.

So these points may sound a lot like something you can do with other similar hardware such as Google glasses or even a normal camera from your phone etc. but how does this stands out in relation to the benefits your business may receive from sharing with Spectacles?

First of, Snapchat is a closed platform - without using sponsored content or memories - which only allows you to share images and videos through their own app. With the new glasses Spectacles you may now be able to record and share events live and directly to your following on Snapchat using a complete new format and style of video.

It might be worth stating that you still need to have a following on Snapchat to really benefit from any of this.

Second, wether or not this is going to be the next big thing, utilizing the exposure from being one of the first on the market, may help you increase the following or the engagement from your followers.

If your company is one of the first business' with this product you may find your followers to be more likely to tell others or even showing their friends, family etc. the videos you release. This may or may not be due to the content you've submitted but simply because it's a new form of sharing and a new format of the videos found in the feed.

So what are my first tips to you and your Business in relation to the upcoming Spectacles?

• If you're able to get a pair - get them as quickly as possible
• Prepare some videos which you can share once the hardware is out. Write a plan for releases and notify your followers before the videos will be published. That way you may find yourself with a lot of followers just waiting and following your profile to view the new features and how the video from the glasses may look.

This is just a short article with some personal points on Spectacles but in the future a lot more in-depth articles will be written on this topic. I'm personally a big fan of the Snap concept and will be covering as many features or ways to benefit from this as i can find in the future.
