Nimna Sanjeeth is an Urban Clean success story. Just 7 years ago he was a cash-strapped overseas student sleeping on a couch. He came to Australia as a 16-year-old from Sri Lanka to build a financially free and empowered life for himself. Entering Australia on a student visa, Nimna worked part time as a cleaner for his cousin’s Urban Clean franchise in Melbourne to pay off his 30 thousand dollar a year student fees.
He skimped on food, got around town on a push-bike and even slept overnight at a train station because he couldn’t afford an Uber to make the early start time at a cleaning job.
By 2019, he’d saved enough money to purchase his own Urban Clean Franchise which was worth 35 thousand dollars back then.
Today, at 23 years old, Nim’s making that sum every month with a turnover of 400 K per year. He drives a Tesla, is exploring real estate investments and plans to build an online educational platform.
Nim shared his story on the Urban Clean Podcast. It’s one of hard work, determination while balancing customer satisfaction and employee management.
Here’s Chapter 1 of Nimna’s inspiring story.
Struggling Student
"I was studying full time. I also didn't want to be a burden to my parents back home so I was trying to make some money by myself as well.
I was very entrepreneurial-minded since I was small and my cousin, who I was staying with (in Australia), had an Urban Clean franchise back then. So I worked with him, went around with him - we worked a lot together. I helped him out with his business and over time I got a full understanding about the cleaning industry in general.

And then I was like, okay, how can I get started? I didn't know how to go about and start my own business. When I turned 18, I was working, I was studying full -time as well. And then I thought I don't have to work per hour. I can just run my own business. So that's when I got started with Urban Clean.
?Chasing Cars
I was actually saving money for a Mustang. That was the goal. I was like, okay, I need to buy a Mustang. I think I saved like 40 grand or something like that. And then I realized when I turned 18, when I finally got my full driver's license, that I couldn’t drive a Mustang until I have a full driver's license because a Mustang has a higher engine capacity. You can’t drive a Mustang with P plates. So, I had all this left over money and having it in the bank wasn’t the best deal. I needed to invest it.
So, instead of doing any old job and ?starting with some crap, I looked ?into my cousin's Urban Clean franchise. It was going well. So, I had a few meetings and then, the rest is history.
Urban Clean really did help me to figure out the business, and how to navigate it. As a start-up, it was perfect. Everything fell into perfect pieces.
Two or three years in and I’ve won the best franchise award (last year.) So, my business is doing really well. With Urban Clean, it's the expertise that comes in. Doing the right thing at the right time - they advise you properly, the sales techniques, everything. It's not just the advertising or getting the contracts, rather, you get a full package. You can just go in and learn and then you know how to grow your business. With Urban Clean, you're not starting from scratch.
