The Snap Moment - Avengers inspired
I was recently watching Avengers Endgame when something crossed my mind. Sense of loss and the motivation of correcting something fatal should be considered very powerful to drive an entity to action. In this movie, you find the superheroes uniting to bring back the population erased by Thanos' snap. How is it in real life?
I am no superhero but situations like these have affected my life as well. So I was wondering what truly makes a person bask in the glory of success? Are they material achievements which can be flaunted or Phoenix like situation where personal tragedies ravage and burn away a person who still attempts to rise. I recall the story of a kid who suffered from severe tonsillitis and low immunity. This kid spend most of its childhood protected and shielded from diseases and triggers. Attending regular swimming classes was impossible as every week fevers and chills came back to make him sick. The strange thing is this kid never became a champion swimmer but succeeded to dive into the depths of the ocean to marvel at the beautiful garden and creatures below the sea. An achievement which no one ever came to know.
Along with measures of success, what are the measures of greatness, humanity and happiness? I know a soldier who got shot on the battlefield while shielding one of his colleagues. It permanently pulled the curtain down on his military career. I also know people in work places who never use their power to fight on your side even when they know they should. They are not there to shield you when you are taking bullets for others. When they know, they are immune to the bullets but you are not. And when you die, you feel more sorry for the people who could have protected you but made sure they were the ones who shot you. So who is more successful? The one who died or the one who killed thinking they survived? There are so many Thanos like characters in workplaces who snap in good earnest to bring sense into the world and then there are the stupid (ironical usage) Avengers who can never move on from what the snap did. They were not happy just thinking that they were spared, that life gave them a chance which others didn't get.
So costumes, power, position or even capes don't make superheroes just like success, position, power, educational degrees don't make real humans. Happiness definition got all wrong somewhere down the line. Intent matters more in this world. If you are a human or you think you are a human, tell me for whom you took a bullet...tell me who you shielded...tell me when you sacrificed for someone else's smile...tell me when you were brave enough like the rich, intelligent, family man Tony Stark to lose everything just to snap for the greater good? Find your snap moment so that you know there is something genuine to flaunt or else just wait for Thanos to snap for you.

5 年Even though there are many articles written about this movie, some talking literally some philosophically, this one is simply unique. This one goes beyond the usual talk of mythological/superhero talks and makes is a deep human teaching. This is perhaps what the writer of the movies, comics, art want, yet we fail to see it as they wish to show us. Most people talk about "who is most powerful avenger?" "dude that last fight scene was epic" "I know everything about the Marvel Universe" . But do these people understand what the Marvel Universe is?
