Snack the Healthy Way!

Here a cookie, there a chocolate bar – when the hunger pangs hit, the temptation to turn to an unhealthy snack can get out of control. But it doesn’t have to be the case. Healthy, ready-to-grab snacks are just as good as chocolate bars and at the same time boost your body and your health!

Our current society is built around eating on the go. Current studies show that more and more people eat their meals while walking or driving. Fast, flexible, easily available – in the fast-paced, stressful times we live in, many people replace full meals with chocolate or cereal bars, a hot dog from the corner hot-dog stand or a pastry from a drive-thru.

The food industry has jumped on the trend and is gradually taking over supermarket shelves with “healthy” snack alternatives. Next to the classic potato chips, you’ll also find vegetable chips, chickpea flips and soybean crackers. Effectively advertised as “high in fiber”, “rich in protein” or “low-carb”, they’re fast becoming bestsellers. Even the assortment of chocolate and cereal bars is expanding with the glittering addition of superfood ingredients like goji berries, chia and hemp seeds, guaranteed vegan and organic – but just as full of sugar and fat as their conventional counterparts.

Do people need snacks?

Why do so many people reach for unhealthy snacks like cookies, chocolate and chips? For all kinds of reasons, in fact. It can be simply out of boredom and frustration, or because of stress. Scientists have found that the reasons differ from person to person, from day to day and from situation to situation. In our culture, many of us, for example, reach for sweets to cheer ourselves up.
