Smruti Road Drainage Serious Hazard - A shining success story of the concerted efforts of the residents of Kandarpada
Friends, let me share with you today's event at Smruti Bldg regarding the five year old serious issue of accumulated drain water.coming from Shanti Vihar Chawl.
We have formed a task force to handle this problem. Today was the second site visit of the task force. About this problem I will write a separate note. Current note is about another but related problem of the drain water overflowing from the drain lid on the internal gully outside Smruti building. This had been a very serious health hazard as you can see from the pictures attached. There was a complete choke up of the underground drain line. The residents used to get it cleaned from their own resources from time to time. Today we had called (thanks to Ms Yvonnes who arranged the visit) BMC Mntc Engineer Mr Roshan Zamse for a site visit. After seeing the drain water overflowing, he immediately called up his team and instructed them to get the drain cleaned on URGENT basis. Within 2 hours his team reached the spot. Initially they tried to clean the drain from a small suction machine. Soon they discovered that the problem is on a larger scale and the small machine won’t be enough. Then they called their giant suction machine. It took several hours to completely clean the drain. As can be seen from the pictures attached.there were big cement boulders, pipes and wooden planks in the drain. Finally the drain was cleaned. This was possible only because of the concerted efforts of the residents in the task force. Mr Uday Bantwal from Smruti was present throughout to oversee the work extending many hours. We must appreciate the most efficient and urgent handling of this problem by the BMC Engineer Mr Roshan. Really commendable.
Very happy to share this story with you. It is motivating for us all to move forward in resolving other issues at Kandarpada.
Attached are the pictures of the today happening. Thanks Mr Ganesh Khare for taking the snaps.
I will separately write the problem of drainage from Shanti Vihar Chawl. It is a complicated issue. But we will not give up till it is resolved.
