The Smouldering Heart

There are some things left unsaid, where the heart’s matters lie
Truths best left untold, lights not cast upon darkened skies.
One is how I still see in you all those wondrous things I did before.
Another though heart’s flame is doused, I now see even more.
The kindness and compassion you once held, though bitter is it’s streak,
Now encompasses more into it’s fold, you no longer prey upon the weak.
Yes, once you were a more hard, held onto criminal values and actions.
Now you try and make your way with far better rewards and satisfaction.
Once you embraced the street-thug life and all it’s meaning and connotations,
Though lately you have begun to see a life has value and it’s own celebrations.
I doubt you see such a change in your soul while it holds me in fascination.
For we never see those subtle things in life that cause our soul’s mutation.
And thus begins a problem, one that should not concern you and only I.
With my hearts true love now controlled, how long will the embers lie?
Could those smouldering feelings be fanned returning my soul to fire?
So best I now say not one thing at all, nor answer your queries as a liar.
Yes there are those secret things better left unsaid or even spoken and discussed.
For there is one truth can be openly said, there is enough love shared between us.
Enough true love, respect and friendship and in my place more than I ever deserved,
So know that is why I put my heart’s needs to rest, and your heart’s needs are served.
