Smile

If I could choose a final place,

To let my soul slip into grace,

I'd lay down softly next to you,

In warmth of love both fierce and true.

I'd take your hand, my fingers light,

Like whispering stars in the velvet night,

And close my eyes without a sound,

Content to know where peace is found.

For in your gaze, I see my life,

The joy, the calm beyond the strife,

And if I leave, let it be here,

With you beside, and love sincere.

No fear could break, nor sorrow wild

I’d greet the end, so meek, so mild,

With only love’s pure, gentle while

To die with you and with a smile.
